Ive had a number of GSP more than the years, 1 of mine ive had for 2+ years now. I began out with two ~2 inch GSP in a 10 gallon and they had been fine for over a year (with weekly water changes and an ammonia/nitrate detoxifier). I now only have 1 GSP in a 20 gallon tank with six tigar barbs, 5 neon tetras, two algae eaters and a quarry and they are all fine together. The tick is acquiring tank mates that are fast and at least semi aggressive. My puff tries to catch them but he cant, since their just as fast and has provided up chasing them over time. BTW I have had mine in only fresh water for two+ years, i will be switching to brackish water sooner or later, I was kinda hopping he’d kill my fresh water fish so I could do it sooner but I will be playing the waiting game now. Very simple to preserve, have gone more than a week with out feeding and he was fine.
Until a few weeks from now I never have significantly to buy toys, so for my cage, (I’m getting my very first two rats ever tomorrow, and they are five weeks old), I bought a tiny basket for a dollar. My cage is a wire cage. I took some thin black cord and tied it to every end of the basket. I strung it by way of the bars so that it appears like a little loft bed. it is hung on the side of the cage so it will not swing too much and i filled it with bits of paper and and bedding. I also have a clay pot and an empty coffee container that i took the label off of as hideouts. The chew toy I bought even though simply because I couldn’t locate a good piece of wood to put in.
