Cat flaps are convenient, provided you do actually have a cat of course. They serve as an entry and exit point that your cats can use independently, eliminating the need to be constantly worried about if and when the cat needs to be let out or indeed back in.
Since the inception of the cat flap, this “cat door” has moved along with technology and now there are different kinds of pet flap on the market. Although the principal is the same, no longer are some of the cat flaps, simply a hole in wall or door!
These evolutions in technology have certainly helped to prevent some of the less pleasant side effects of effectively having a small entrance point in the side of one of your walls or doors. With some of the more advanced flaps, you can now prevent other; let’s say less desirable cats from around the neighbourhood from simply using your home as a play palace!
It may sound a little daunting for some pet owners, but most of the functions on these cat flaps are very easy to operate and ultimately help you make your house that little bit more secure.
Of course, the basic flaps are still widely available to those that prefer to use them and prices vary accordingly, usually with the more hi-tech examples proving to be the most expensive.
So, what do some of these fancy feline flaps actually do differently from their most basic counterparts?
A selective cat flap is able discern which cat or cats should be allowed in or allowed out, ensuring that your neighbours cats or any strays will not be able to just wander into your home if you do not wish them to!
A 4 way cat flap has different main settings, so it can be set to allow cats to only go out, or to allow cats to only come in to the house or it can be categorically locked or unlocked.
There is also an electromagnetic flap in which your cat has a magnetic key attached to its collar and when the cat approaches the flap, the magnet works in tandem with the flap and opens for the cat, once again preventing unwanted cats from getting in to your home.
There really is plenty of variety and price range to choose from and if you want to see how some of these more advanced cat flaps work, there are plenty of websites and YouTube videos that will provide ample explanations.
